For Parents
At Hockerill, careers education is highly valued, and we recognise the important role parents and play in helping students make informed decisions about their future. We work in partnership with families to ensure every student is well supported at key transition points.
What Parents Can Expect:
Parents and carers receive updates about the Careers Education programme, including information about:
- Careers events and workshops
- Key decision points and options processes
- Resources to support conversations at home
Parents and carers are encouraged to attend and engage with:
- GCSE, IB and Post-16 options evenings
- Information sessions such as Year 9 Options and Year 12 UCAS meetings
We value parental insight and aim to work collaboratively with families and external partners to support students’ aspirations and future pathways.
Supporting Your Child’s Career Choices
Parents play a vital role in helping students explore options and plan for the future. We encourage you to:
- Talk regularly with your child about their interests, strengths and ambitions
- Use trusted guidance such as Russell Group – Informed Choices when discussing subject and post-16 decisions
- Explore labour market information, including resources from The Careers and Enterprise Company, which provides helpful insights into local employment trends
If you would like to discuss your child’s future, please contact their Form Tutor, or Mrs Gaulton, Head of Careers, via email.
How Parents Can Get Involved
We are keen to strengthen links with parents, alumni and the wider business community to provide meaningful, real-world learning opportunities for students. We welcome support from parents who may be able to:
- Speak at careers events or our Biennial Careers Fair
- Support mock interviews or small group career talks
- Offer work experience, work shadowing or taster days for Year 10 or Year 12 students
Any support large or small is greatly appreciated and helps us build a strong network of professional expertise for our students.
If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please contact the Careers Department via the main school switchboard or email:
