Welcome to Boarding

As Director of Boarding, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Hockerill and to a boarding experience that is both enriching and transformative. Boarding at Hockerill is more than just a place to live, it is a vibrant, international community that supports academic excellence, personal growth and lifelong friendships.

Our boarders are at the heart of Hockerill life. With access to the International Baccalaureate and a stimulating academic environment, students are challenged to reach their full potential; not only through their studies, but also through the diverse and dynamic experiences that boarding offers. From cultural celebrations to leadership opportunities, from international friendships to wide-ranging extracurricular programmes, boarding at Hockerill equips students with the confidence, resilience and character needed to thrive in today’s world. In today’s competitive global landscape, academic qualifications alone are not enough.

Maturity, adaptability, empathy and self-motivation are essential qualities; and our boarding environment is uniquely positioned to foster these. Our boarders live and learn alongside peers and staff from across the world, embracing different perspectives and developing a strong sense of international mindedness.

At Hockerill, we are proud to welcome students from across Europe and from as far afield as Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. This global community enriches our boarding life, helping students develop respect for others and an appreciation of different cultures and traditions. Beyond the classroom, we offer a wealth of opportunities for students to explore their passions and try new things, from sports and music to adventurous trips and themed events. Whether participating in a weekend excursion to London, attending a Hockerill music or drama show, playing in a sports team or engaging in Model United Nations, boarders are constantly discovering and growing.

Above all, the wellbeing of every boarder is our top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where each student feels supported and valued. Our dedicated pastoral team, on-site Health Centre, and comprehensive support network ensure that students can thrive, knowing they have access to care and guidance whenever they need it.
