Welcome from the Principal

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Hockerill Anglo-European College – a high-performing and genuinely distinctive school, combining academic excellence and ambition with exceptional personal development.
Hockerill is a co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18, with an international outlook at the heart of our ethos and culture.
Our curriculum is broad, ambitious and intellectually challenging, designed to develop curiosity, independence, critical thinking and a genuine love of learning. We want students to achieve highly, but also to think deeply, understand the world around them and be ready to take advantage of the opportunities ahead.
Our Sixth Form builds on these strengths through an exceptionally broad and flexible curriculum. Students can choose from the International Baccalaureate Diploma, A Levels and selected vocational qualifications, with the opportunity to combine subjects across different programmes to create an ambitious course of study that reflects their strengths, interests and future aspirations. Whatever they choose, our expectations remain high and our students are prepared carefully for leading universities, apprenticeships and future careers.
Situated on a beautiful campus at the edge of Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire, Hockerill enjoys an ideal location within easy reach of London and Cambridge and just ten minutes from Stansted Airport. We welcome applications for both day and boarding places from local, national and international students who hold a current UK passport or the right to reside in the UK.
We are ambitious for our students. We expect them to work hard, aim high and contribute fully to College life. Our students achieve excellent examination results and are taught and challenged by highly committed staff who know them well and are ambitious for them to succeed.
Education at Hockerill extends far beyond academic outcomes. Our rich co-curricular programme provides students with exceptional opportunities to develop their interests, discover new strengths and grow in confidence, resilience, creativity and independence. Whether through sport, the creative and performing arts, leadership, international experiences or the many other opportunities available, we encourage students to participate fully and make a positive contribution to our community.
Our global outlook is one of Hockerill’s defining characteristics. Our diverse day and boarding community brings together students and staff with a wealth of different perspectives, cultures and experiences. Languages are genuinely embedded in College life, supported by our commitment to language learning and the contribution of native speakers. It is not unusual to hear different languages being spoken around the campus, reflecting an outward-looking community in which students develop an understanding of the world and their place within it.
A truly international school where languages are genuinely embedded in the curriculum.
The Good Schools Guide
Strong relationships are central to Hockerill. We want our students to be well known, well taught and well prepared for their future. Our partnership with parents, together with high expectations and individual guidance, helps students to develop the confidence and independence to make the most of the opportunities available to them.
I am immensely proud to lead Hockerill: proud of our students’ academic outcomes, proud of the contribution they make to our community, and proud of the ambitious, thoughtful and outward-looking young people they become.
The best way to understand Hockerill, however, is to experience it for yourself. I warmly invite you to visit the College, meet our students and staff, and discover what Hockerill could offer your child.
