Language College

At Hockerill, we believe that language learning is not just about mastering vocabulary and grammar — it's a gateway to a world of opportunities. Studies show that learning other languages enhances cognitive abilities, fosters cultural appreciation, and improves overall academic performance. That's why we're passionate about offering a comprehensive language programme that goes beyond the classroom to immerse students in real-world language experiences.

New!  The registration for Primary Language Classes 2025-26 is now open.  Please scroll down for the link to register.

Unlock the World through our Language Trips and Exchanges

Our language trips and exchanges provide a dynamic platform for students to apply their language skills in real-world contexts, building confidence and fluency while forging lifelong connections with people from around the globe.

Our programme offers an array of exciting destinations, including France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, China, and Uganda. Through partnerships with prestigious schools such as St Véronique in Liège, Gymnasium Johanneum in Lübeck, Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Potsdam, Pascal-Gymnasium in Münster, IES Rosalía de Castro in Santiago de Compostela  and Keio Chutobu Junior High School in Tokyo, students benefit from immersive experiences that deepen their understanding of language and culture.

Enrichment Beyond Borders

In addition to language trips, our College offers a range of enrichment activities to foster language proficiency and cultural appreciation.

Students participate in language competitions such as the Education Perfect Global Challenge, the GCHQ National Language Competition, the International Space Challenge, the JaLaChamp Japanese Speech Competition, the Languagenut Competition, and language debating, enabling them to sharpen their skills while showcasing their talents on national and global stages.

Our students regularly get involved with the Sixth Form Japan Day at SOAS, University of London. Further day trips and workshops also form part of our enrichment activities, when opportunities arise. We shall soon be visiting the German Careers Roadshow at Cambridge University, and attending a career orientation webinar on languages in the workplace.
