One-to-one Music Lessons
The Music Department at Hockerill is a vibrant hub of creativity and expression that plays a pivotal role in the culture of college life. Students can explore and develop their musical talents, whether they are seasoned performers or just beginning their musical journey. With a diverse range of choirs, and ensembles, the department not only enriches the academic experience but fosters a sense of community and belonging. The music department events such as concerts, shows and recitals are highlights of the college calendar, showcasing the exceptional talent and hard work of the students. The department’s commitment to musical excellence resonates throughout Hockerill, making it an indispensable part of the college’s identity.
Alongside the academic curriculum, Hockerill offer one-to-one music lessons that take place during the college day with a visiting professional musician.
Having one-to-one music lessons is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn to play an instrument and be a part of the vibrant Hockerill Music community.

Why have music lessons?

Our Instrumental/Vocal Teachers
We have a fantastic team of peripatetic staff who visit each week to deliver instrumental, vocal and theory lessons. Our peripatetic team are practising, professional musicians, many of whom perform regularly in leading London Orchestras such as the LSO, BBC Orchestras Orchestra, RPO as well as with artists such as Jamie Cullum and the Strictly Come Dancing Bands. You will be given the option to choose a teacher if you wish, if you do not have a preference, we will allocate the most suitable teacher using the information given to us on your application form.
Tuition Fees 2024-25
A 30 minute lesson is £23, payable termly.
There are 30 lessons per academic year as follows for 2024-25.
Michaelmas Term: 11 Lessons
Lent Term: 10 Lessons
Summer Term: 9 Lessons

Our Ensembles
Being a part of an ensemble is a fantastic way to develop musicianship, interact with other musicians and have fun when learning an instrument. Students who have one-to-one lessons at Hockerill are expected to join at least one ensemble. Many of our Ensembles have the opportunity to go on UK/European Tours, Workshop Trips and be invited to participate in lots of Hockerill events.
