Hockerill Sixth Form to Offer A-Levels Alongside the IB from 2027

Hockerill Sixth Form to Offer A-Levels Alongside the IB from 2027

From September 2027, our Outstanding Sixth Form will offer both A-Level and International Baccalaureate pathways, giving students greater flexibility in how they continue their studies after GCSEs.

We are pleased to announce that from September 2027, our Outstanding Sixth Form will offer expanded Post-16 curriculum pathways, providing students with greater choice in how they shape their studies after GCSEs.

Students will continue to have access to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which has been central to Hockerill’s academic success for many years. Our students consistently achieve results above the IB World Average and go on to leading universities in the UK and overseas.

Alongside the IB Diploma pathway, we will introduce an A-Level pathway. This new option will give students greater flexibility to select the route that best suits their interests, strengths and future aspirations.

The decision follows a period of strategic review by the College’s leadership and Governors, taking into account the evolving national education landscape and the importance of ensuring the long-term sustainability of our Post-16 provision.

Chris Dunne, Chair of Governors, said:

“Hockerill has an exceptional track record with the International Baccalaureate, and the IB Diploma pathway will remain a core part of what we offer. At the same time, we recognise that students have different aspirations and learning preferences.

Broadening our Post-16 curriculum allows us to build on the expertise of our highly experienced teaching staff while offering students greater flexibility in how they pursue their goals. This enhanced offer will ensure we continue to provide a high-quality academic experience while maintaining the standards for which the College is known.”

The changes will first apply to students who are currently in Year 10 and who will begin their Post-16 studies in September 2027.

Located in Bishop’s Stortford, Hockerill Anglo-European College is a highly aspirational boarding and day school with a national and international reputation for academic excellence. The College was recently ranked 16th nationally in The Sunday Times Parent Power schools guide.

Further information about our Sixth Form pathways will be shared with students and parents as plans continue to develop.
