Intent

The intent of the Level 2 Foundation Sports Leadership curriculum is to develop confident, responsible, and capable leaders who can plan, deliver, and evaluate physical activities for others. The programme aims to equip students with transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, motivation, and decision-making, preparing them for roles within sport, education, and the wider community.

Through a practical, skills-based approach, students learn how to:

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and positive behaviours.
  • Plan and deliver safe, inclusive, and engaging sports sessions.
  • Reflect on their own performance to develop leadership confidence and capability.
  • Understand how leadership skills can be applied across a range of contexts — from schools to community events.

The course promotes responsibility, inclusion, and personal development, aligning closely with the school’s vision for developing global citizens and future role models.

The course is structured to build leadership confidence progressively through practical experience, reflection, and applied assessment.

Teaching and Learning Strategies:

  • Practical, hands-on sessions supported by structured reflection and peer feedback.
  • Real-life leadership experiences through internal and community events.
  • Collaborative learning fostering teamwork, inclusion, and problem-solving.
  • Continuous assessment through observation, planning evidence, and evaluation.

Impact

By the end of the Level 2 Sports Leadership course, students will:

  • Confidently plan, lead, and evaluate sports and physical activity sessions.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership behaviours, including communication, fairness, and teamwork.
  • Apply transferable skills in other areas such as education, employment, and community engagement.
  • Understand the importance of inclusion, safety, and positive role modelling in leadership.
  • Achieve formal recognition through qualification completion, ready for progression to higher-level leadership or coaching programmes.

Impact is measured through:

  • Practical leadership assessments and coursework evidence.
  • Student self-reflection and feedback from participants and peers.
  • Successful delivery of school and community sporting events.
  • Improved confidence, responsibility, and interpersonal skills.

Ultimately, the course empowers students to become effective, adaptable, and inclusive leaders who make a positive contribution to sport and society.
