College Life

At Hockerill, we hold the view that education consists of much more than books, teachers, computers and classrooms.

We are a specialist Music College and the quality of Music is outstanding. There are extensive practice facilities, a Music Technology Suite plus a recording studio. Over 300 students receive individual tuition weekly and opportunities for performance in the UK and abroad.
Thanks to excellent sporting facilities, including a floodlit Astroturf all-weather pitch, sport occupies an important place in the life of the College. Our teams compete successfully in sports such as rugby, soccer, hockey, netball and basketball.

Range of activities

Apart from sport, our wide repertoire of other extra-curricular activities encourages a high level of participation from both boarders and day students, during the week and at weekends.
These include:-
• regular cultural visits to concerts, theatres, exhibitions and museums locally or in nearby cities such as Cambridge and London
• our own College Choir and Orchestra
• lively and popular drama presentations featuring works by modern and classical playwrights
• an active Combined Cadet force
• frequent formal events such as Dinners, Balls, a traditional Christmas Carol Service and Speech Day
• the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.

College Day

The college day begins with Registration, giving Form Tutors the chance to catch up with their tutees and make them aware of any notices or events. Forms also take part in the Equipe quiz each week and discuss the various regular topics such as Current Affairs Topic, Thursday Thought and Word of the Week.

The week runs from Monday until Saturday lunchtime. There are 28 hours of lessons in a typical week.  Each day is made up of 5 hour long lessons, with 5 minutes between to ensure students have time to move around campus and are ready to start each lesson promptly.
