We invest time in every student, providing personalised careers guidance and opportunities that help them make informed decisions about their future. 

Our Sixth Form Careers Programme combines individual guidance with a rich programme of opportunities, information and experiences. Whether a student is considering university, an apprenticeship, employment, a gap year or a pathway beyond the UK, we help them understand their options, identify what interests them and prepare confidently for their next steps.

A personalised approach

When students join Year 12, they undertake psychometric and career profiling activities designed to help them explore their interests, strengths and potential career pathways. This gives us an early understanding of students’ developing ideas and enables us to provide targeted information, opportunities, talks and experiences that are relevant to their individual interests.

Students also have access to specialist guidance and support from our fully qualified Careers Adviser, tutors, teachers and college leaders.

Our Careers Programme

Our dedicated Sixth Form Careers Programme supports students to:

• Explore university, apprenticeship, employment and gap-year pathways
• Research courses, careers and future opportunities in the UK and internationally
• Develop applications, including personal statements, essays, CVs and interview skills
• Access university, apprenticeship and employer talks and events
• Prepare for competitive university applications, including Oxbridge
• Develop their understanding of the world of work through employer engagement and work experience
• Explore international university opportunities and application processes
• Attend UCAS, Higher Education and careers events
• Receive guidance tailored to their individual aspirations and circumstances

Students are encouraged to take ownership of their future while being supported throughout the decision-making process. We aim to ensure that every student has the knowledge, confidence, skills and experiences to progress successfully beyond Hockerill.

Inspiring destinations

Hockerill students progress to a wide range of destinations, including leading universities across the UK, USA, Europe and Asia, as well as degree apprenticeships and employment.

Recent destinations have included Oxford and Cambridge (UK), Northwestern and Dartmouth (USA), Bocconi (Italy) and Esade (Spain). Many students also choose to take a gap year, gaining valuable experiences and employment before continuing their studies or beginning their careers.

Whatever their destination, our aim is to ensure that every student leaves Hockerill with a clear sense of direction and the confidence to pursue their ambitions.

My three children received offers from every one of their university choices. Without the strong guidance they received from the school’s programme, which pushed them to make aspirational choices, I really don’t think they would have been as successful.
