Japan Exchange 2025
Twenty-one Year 11 students visited our partner school, Keio Chutobu Junior High School in Tokyo, during the October half term. The 11-day exchange programme offered Hockerill students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay with a Japanese host family for five nights and experience what daily life is like for a Japanese high school student.
Students formed strong bonds with their exchange partners and host families—connections that will last for many years, if not a lifetime. They were enthusiastic about speaking Japanese, communicating with local people in shops and restaurants, and using the language beyond the classroom. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow throughout the trip.
Our tour guide praised the students for their excellent behaviour and positive attitude, commenting that Hockerill was among the best of the 200 schools they have worked with.
There were many highlights, including TeamLab—the immersive digital art exhibition—and a traditional tea ceremony. A particular favourite for many was the opportunity to play football with local students from Kanto Gakuin. The school enjoyed our visit so much that each Hockerill student was presented with a special T-shirt.
It was truly an amazing experience—well done to all of you for making it unforgettable.
