Hockerill Students Enjoy Enriching Exchange Trip to Liège, Belgium

Last week, 40 Year 9 and Year 10 students participated in a memorable cultural exchange to Liège, Belgium. The students had the unique opportunity to stay with Belgian host families, allowing them to practice their French and experience life in the heart of Europe. Throughout the week, they took part in a variety of activities that deepened their understanding of the French language and Belgian culture.

Highlights of the trip included a visit to the Illusion exhibition, where students explored the fascinating world of optical illusions, as well as a trip to the local aquarium. They also spent a day in Namur, the capital of Wallonia, exploring the city's rich history and French-speaking culture. Students attended lessons at a local school, further immersing themselves in the Belgian education system. To cap off the adventure, the group spent a thrilling day at Walibi, a theme park near Brussels, where they enjoyed the rides and attractions.

The exchange was praised by Naomi Waritay (Year 10), who said, "It was an enriching and fun cultural experience that helped develop my listening and speaking skills in French. The day trips were both educational and entertaining, and I would recommend this to younger students."

Parents also expressed their appreciation, with one commenting, "My daughter enjoyed experiencing school in Liège and seeing how it differs from a UK school. She came back with new French phrases and friendships, both with students from Liège and Hockerill."

Another wonderful trip, further supporting Hockerill’s commitment to broadening students’ global outlooks through immersive experiences. We look forward to continuing this exciting exchange in the future!
