Curriculum
Hockerill Anglo-European College offers a unique academic experience, proudly teaching the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme at Key Stage 3 and Diploma Programme in the Sixth Form. The Middle Years Programme is followed by all students in Years 7-9, with most students being taught two modern foreign languages (French. German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish are on offer).
At Hockerill we are extremely proud of our bilingual curriculum. In Year 7 all students are taught Music in either French or German. Most students are also taught History and Geography in French and German during Year 9 and 10.
Year 10 and 11 students are prepared for GCSEs. However, subjects are still taught through the ‘Approaches to Teaching and Learning’ methodology of the International Baccalaureate. Concept-based learning through global contexts remains key to the students’ learning. GCSE attainment and progress are high at the College and put Hockerill among the top performers nationally in the league tables.
The prestigious IB Diploma Programme is the only offer in the Sixth Form and this broad and balanced curriculum is widely regarded as the best Sixth Form education available in the world. As with GCSEs, IB results are high with the College being ranked as the top state comprehensive school in the UK in the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2017.
