A statement from the Senior Leadership Team

At Hockerill our mission is to:

Develop enquiring, knowledgeable, responsible global citizens through academic excellence.

This aligns with the mission statement of the International Baccalaureate which is put into action through the IB Learner Profile.

Through the IB programmes and our approaches to teaching and learning, we aim to promote intercultural understanding and respect.

Our Equalities Statement is clear - To continue to promote and celebrate the cultural diversity of the College.

However, the recent shocking events in Minneapolis have led us to revisit our approach. We recognise that it is our role to provide leadership in this area, and we are fortunate in having students who will always challenge us to do more.

Students who have been involved in working with the Governing Body in developing the strategic direction of the College have highlighted that issues around equality and anti-racism should be a focus. We will continue to work with them and with the whole College community to address systemic racism and to celebrate our diverse College population.

We are proud that our students see themselves as global citizens and share in this outrage, many of them contacting us to express their concern and their wish to address this issue. The empowerment of students and the recognition and celebration of diversity is at the heart of what we do in Hockerill and will lead us in our next steps.
