Parent Governor Election - December 2020

Two Vacancies

Thank you to all those who voted in the recent parent governor election.  The ballot closed at noon on Friday 11 December 2020.  Our congratulations go to Chris Dunne and Debra Williams-Gualandi.

 DUNNE, Christopher

I would like to put myself forward as a candidate for the position of Parent Governor.
I am guardian and parent to four Hockerill students ranging from Year 7 to Year 12 so will be invested in Hockerill's progress and challenges for some time to come.
Before taking early retirement in 2015, I was a Senior Foreign Exchange Sales Executive working at leading global Investment Banks, including JPMorgan & Morgan Stanley. During my 30 years in the City, I was responsible for cultivating relationships with a broad spectrum of clients that included: Central Banks, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Corporates, Financial Institutions & Hedge Funds.
Since retiring, I have worked as a script advisor for Bad Wolf Productions on ‘Industry’ a new eight-part drama commissioned by HBO about the world of Investment Banking.
My experience as a Governor on the Finance & Premises Committee at Howe Green House School has given me valuable insight into the operational needs & challenges required to run a school successfully. I am adept at working my way through a financial spreadsheet and looking beyond the initial overview as well as dealing with highly sensitive issues that may arise.

I have worked in international education for over two decades in a variety of roles from teacher, through curriculum coordinator, section principal to school director in a prominent European international school. This experience affords me insight into the challenges of directing a school, budgeting, fundraising and ensuring the needs of the entire community are held together in a clear, actionable vision. I fully appreciate the roles and responsibilities of school governors, in terms of ethical behaviour, confidentiality and respect for the institution and those working within it.
I currently work as lecturer and researcher in international education at a university in The Netherlands. I am committed to the values implicit in international mindedness and citizenship, and truly believe that education is the key for each individual to reach their highest potential and contribute positively to the local and global community.
I am interested in serving as parent governor as I believe that I represent a multicultural, well-informed point of view. Having lived and worked in the UK, US, France, Italy and The Netherlands, I believe I can offer insight into the hopes and aspirations of European parents who choose Hockerill, while understanding the expectations of UK-based families.
Respectfully, Dr. Debra Williams-Gualandi
