Arena eventing at Norton Heath
April 25th 2014
During the Easter Holidays, a team of three riders participated in the Eastern Regional ‘Arena Eventing’ competition at the Norton Heath Equestrian Centre – an event organised by the National Schools Equestrian Association. The team consisting of Ines Harper, Maia Dilloway and Kitty Haslam rode three brilliant clear rounds in the hotly contested Novice Class (80 – 85cm) where 25 teams from across the region were in force.
The three Hockerill girls had to negotiate a series of show jumps for the first part of the course followed by being judged on style as well as technique whilst picking up the pace for the assimilated cross country phase (inclusive of a ‘skinny’ - a perilously narrow fence to test horse and rider). These judged marks were then converted into penalty points and added to any jumping penalties (for which they did not receive) in order to gain the final score.
This was the first time that the three young riders had competed for Hockerill and they acquitted themselves well finishing in 15th place. They are looking forward to the next challenge later on in May – an Inter-Schools Show Jumping competition held at the same venue.
