GCSE Results 2018
Posted on: 21st August 2018
When and how are the results distributed?
Examination results are available for collection from St Alban’s Hall on Thursday 23 August between 8.30 and 10.00am.
Students requiring a relative or friend to collect results on their behalf must send a signed letter of authorisation with the collector who must be able to provide personal identification. Please inform the Examinations Officer of this arrangement in advance if possible.
Candidates who live overseas should make arrangements with the Examinations Officer with regard to obtaining their results. Results will not be disclosed by telephone under any circumstances.
Year 11 students who do not collect their results from College on the above date will receive these by post to their home address.
How do we find out about Sixth Form Places?
Confirmation of places on the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme will be enclosed with the results. Where possible, we will also confirm subject choices; if this is not possible, we will endeavour to firm up subject choices before the end of Friday 24 August. Students often wish to change their original subject choices after receiving results and we would welcome these requests as soon as possible.
What can I do if results are substantially different from what is anticipated?
It must be remembered that examinations can only measure performance on the day, and that candidates can do better or worse than anticipated for a variety of reasons.
It is possible to request an enquiry about results (EAR) whereby the awarding body arranges for the examination script to be reviewed. Details of the procedures and fees involved are available from the Examinations Officer and the process should be started as soon as possible after consultation with the Head of Department concerned. The deadline for submission of an EAR application is normally in mid-September for summer exams.
Members of the Senior Leadership Team will be available in College between 23 August and the start of the Michaelmas term. There will also be a representative from Connexions in St Alban’s Hall to help with post GCSE decisions.
Please note that awarding bodies do not provide component marks and grade boundary information for individual candidates.
Information for External Candidates post GCSE Results 23rd August 2018
Once you have received your results, please come into Hockerill after 1200hrs on Thursday 23rd August. Please go directly to Reception, where a member of staff will be available to discuss your application and confirm if you have met the entry requirements.
If you are unable to attend College in person, please send a clear scan of your Results Statement to firstname.lastname@example.org, or a photocopy by post to the College, and we will respond as soon as possible.
Please do not assume that you have a place without a confirmation letter from us.
New External Applicants
If you have done well in your GCSEs and fancy taking the IB Diploma Programme then we may have some late places based on your subject choices. Contact us after 1200hrs to discuss your options further.
When do current students receive certificates?
Students and parents will be invited to attend a celebration evening on Friday 9 November when examination certificates will be presented.
Arrangements to collect certificates from College should be made by students who are unable to attend Presentation Evening.
Candidates who require certificates to be posted to their home addresses may purchase a ‘postal package’ from Reception, consisting of a certificate envelope and postage by recorded delivery.
Certificates are only retained at the College for one year after issue; candidates must subsequently apply to each awarding body for a Certifying Statement of Results, for which proof of identity will be required, for example a birth certificate. A fee is payable to each awarding body for this service (currently in the region of £45.00).
Students should ensure that their certificates are stored in a safe place. They will be required in the future for further and higher education and employment applications.
