GCSE Results 2017
Posted on: 24th August 2017
Hockerill Anglo-European College students, staff and parents are today celebrating another highly impressive set of GCSE results. As with the earlier phenomenal IB Diploma results, the standard achieved by the Hockerill students is significantly above the national average and places Hockerill in an elite group of schools nationally. This is particularly heartening given the uncertainty surrounding GCSEs which has received considerable coverage in the national press.
The Principal, Mr Richard Markham, commented:
“On behalf of the governors and staff at Hockerill, I would like to congratulate our students and their families on their success. They have rounded off an excellent academic year for the College with outstanding GCSE results. It is evident from these results that our students have risen to the challenge of the more rigorous testing regime in English and Mathematics and have recorded results which compare positively with previous years.”
Hockerill students are amongst the first cohort to receive new grades in English and Mathematics, with Grade 9 – 1 replacing the model of A*- G. Mr Gareth Roberts, Vice Principal (Curriculum) reflected:
“That results in these subjects was so strong is a testament to the hard work, application and adaptability of the staff and students. Hockerill students have significantly exceeded the national average in these subjects and results are in line with previous record breaking years.”
The College’s top performer was Eleanor Ivey who scored the highest possible grades in all examinations taken, with an absolutely outstanding score of three Grade 9s and seven A*s.
Of equal note were the two sets of twins from the Longworth and Wallace families who did exceptionally well: all four boys amazingly scored top grades in the prestigious freestanding Additional Mathematics qualification. The twins’ other grades were as follows:
Douglas Longworth: 9(1); 8(2); A*(4); A(2); B(1)
Julian Longworth: 9(1); 6(2); A*(3); A(4)
Eric Wallace: 9(2); 8(1); A*(6); A(1)
William Wallace: 9(1); 8(1); 7(1); A*(4); A(3)
Students who scored the equivalent of more than eight A*s were:
Alex Abouharb :9(2); 8(1); A*(6); A(1)
Rachel Bintley :9(1); 8(1);7 (1); A*(7);
Louis Buck: 9(1); 8(1);7 (1); A*(6); A(1)
Madeleine Feerick: 9(1); 8(1);7 (1); A*(7)
Martha Hoult: 9(2); 8(1); A*(7)
Karen Isaacs: 9(1); 7(2); A*(7); A(1)
Katherine Lewington: 8(2);7 (1); A*(7).
Our congratulations go to all the Hockerill students: we are incredibly proud of all of their grades.
