Governors

Governance at Hockerill

The governors of Hockerill Anglo-European College have responsibility for raising school standards through their three key roles of setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability and acting as a critical friend.

The full governing body meets four times per year, and on further occasions if required.  Most committees of the governing body meet half termly to cover the following areas:

  • Curriculum
  • Pastoral and Boarding
  • Resources
  • Steering

In addition there are committees for discipline, hearings and exclusions.  Membership of the discipline and hearing can be made up of any three governors (except in some cases staff governors) and membership of the admissions committee is agreed by governors annually.

Sabine Craston
Community Governor

I have been a member of the Board of Governors at Hockerill since 1998. I have had the privilege to work with three Principals and to be part of the transformation of the college into the remarkable school that we know.

I am a French native married to an Englishman, mother of three IB graduates. In the late 1980’s my husband’s job took us to Sweden for six years and then to France for three years. It was Hockerill’s celebration of languages and its international dimension that made us decide to settle in Bishop’s Stortford upon our return to the UK.

Originally, I trained as a translator secretary and had the chance to spend a year in England (Cheshire) at the age of 18 and my final year of university in Germany (Wuppertal). I have been working as a French teacher for primary school children and adults since 1999. I am fluent in French and English and can speak Swedish and German too.
